couldn't resist, so here is

Mango, Bubbles, Ramsay & Simon on their play
gym. Simon also watches Sesame Street from his
play gym perch. He loves doing the wolf whistle,
blows kisses and once in a purple sky he'll make
an attempt at Jingle Bells, but always ends it with
a wolf whistle and kisses!
Children and birds don't mix.
Kids like playing with their
pets and cuddling with
them. Puppies are best
suited for that. Birds need
tranquility and gentle
handling. Children have not
yet learned how to do that.
Mom's might think it's cute
when their little toddler
screams and pokes at birds,
but birds don't think it's
cute. It frightens them and
makes them aggressive.
Children and geese don't
mix, either. Geese do hold
grudges and if a child
scares them once, goosey is
not going to like your cute,
adorable little child
anymore... protect your
child as well as animals. Not
all pets are suitable for
children and not all pet
owners are suitable for
certain types of pets. Most
people's lifestyles are not
conducive to bird
ownership. Do your
research before adopting
any animal, especially if you
have small children!
"If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity,
you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men." St. Francis of Assisi
Look what we found in our back yard! As soon as we saw
the baby, we left her alone. Daughter went back for a
couple of pictures, which took all of about 30 seconds,
but we stayed away so momma could come get her baby.
After about 5 minutes, mom came for her little one. Sometimes momma deer will tell babies to "stay" so they can feed on their own. They are never far away and always come to get the babies. So if you find a baby, leave it alone. Mom WILL come get it. If you have witnessed mom being killed and know for sure that baby is an orpahn, call a wildlife rescuer. Never attempt to raise wild animals on your own---there's just way more to it than we realize! Isn't this the most precious sight you have ever seen?

Below are pictures taken at Feathered Kisses Bird Sanctuary, owned and operated
by a wonderful, caring person and dear friend, Shelley Jones--
Hubby with Sammy, a lovable cuddle bug of
a Cockatoo. Sammy travels and teaches
kids about birds. Shelley & Sammy teach
kids that these very large birds are NOT
good pets, especially for the inexperienced!
DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE ADOPTING
AN ANIMAL YOU KNOW NOTHING
ABOUT...PLEASE!!!! This is why most of the
birds are at the sanctuary in the first place.
This is Emma with what is
supposed to be MY mate. But,
apparently, Emma gets what she
wants. She has claimed the hub for
herself and I had to step away.
Sounds funny, but in reality, Emma
belonged to a woman who adored
her. When she got married, Emma
turned her affections toward the
new husband and sent the poor
woman to the hospital. Like
humans, these birds decide who
they wish to bond with. It's not
always going to be you!
Me with Cisco, a huge flirt of a Mc Caw. Do I look nervous?
I don't scare easily, but even I get a little intimidated by
these large birds. Especially when my entire ear fits inside
his beak...and I'm going to leave it at that.
Me with Maxine, who really liked my
daughter's shoes and tried to steal them!
Casper, an Umbrella Cockatoo, 45
yrs. old. Yes, 45 YEARS old. The
larger birds can live 60-90 years! It's
a lifetime commitment and in most
cases, you need to have a will so
that the bird will have a good home
when you're gone. They usually
outlive their owners...another thing to
consider before adopting a bird.
Casper was captured from the wild,
which is very sad. I think these birds
should be left alone. Those that are
already in existence should be in the
care of experienced people, only.
Above; this is what happens when people
who don't know what they are doing, adopt
these birds. Parrots need 8 hours a day of
your time! They develop psychological &
emotional problems from neglect, abuse and
inadequate housing and food. You have to
cook for them and prepare fresh food for
them daily, and as they are highly intelligent
creatures, need A LOT of interaction with their
owner(s). As flock animals, they can not be
alone. Self mutilation is generally the result
of human ignorance and selfishness.
Above; a Congo African
Grey (notice the red tail.)
To the right; a pair of Amazons. I don't see how anyone can NOT love birds! Amazing creatues, super intelligent and so beautiful!

Our daughter took this picture of a rainbow
on our way home from our visit. A nice
ending to the day. I wish I could take it as a
sign that there is hope for these magnificent
birds, yet. There are no words truer than
those below by Francis of Assisi.
Mango is a feathered monkey!

This is Casper, again...except this
picture is taken of him in his new
home! Yes, indeed, Casper has
found a new family who will love him
and let him live the remainder of his
life in one place, once and for all. His
new home is with us! This was not
a hasty decision. We have been
contemplating this for months. We
concluded that we are perfect for
eachother. This makes 12 feathered
babies...I would say that's plenty!
